Review for Amy Jarecki's The Highland Duke
The Highland Duke (Highland Lords Novel Book 1) by Amy Jarecki

Blurb
She'll put her life on the line for him…
When Akira Ayres finds the brawny soldier with a musket ball in his thigh, she has no qualms about doing whatever it takes to save his life. Even if it means fleeing across the country to tend his wounds while the English redcoats are closing in. Though she's never been in battle, Akira is just as fierce and brave as any of her Scottish kinsman. But even she's intimidated by the fearsome, brutally handsome Highlander who won't reveal his clan name.
Yet she can never know his true identity…
Geordie knows if Akira ever finds out he's really the Duke of Gordon, both her life and his will be forfeit in a heartbeat. The only way to keep the lass safe while his enemies are on the hunt is to make sure she's by his side day and night. But the longer he's with her, the harder it becomes to think of ever letting her go. Despite their differences in class, despite the danger, he will face down death itself to make her his.

Shawn'a Review
The Highland Duke is the first book in the Lord of the Highlands series by Amy Jarecki. I have always thought that historical romances can be quite tricky to write. So many things depend on the success of one. You have to get historical facts correct, not only do you have to get the verbiage correct but you must stay consistent (it drives me crazy if an author slips up and uses modern day verbiage), and it can’t be over the top scumbaggy which happens a lot in historical romances. I am happy to say that Amy did a great job keeping me happy while reading this. She definitely does her homework before writing these books and I am so happy to see she has more for me to read. This one was centered on the Duke of Gordon and a healer, Akira Ayres, who also happens to be a Gypsy. Both main characters were great and grew so much during the novel you just can help but hope that they get their HEA. I liked the other characters as well, my favorite had to be Sir Coll, I hope to hear more from him in the future. There is plenty of action, romance, and twists to this story that I defiantly stayed interested until the end. The only bad thing about books like this is that I don’t get much sleep.
